Omo Sebua, still looks so tough and stout. Time has not been able to erase its existence. The earthquake with 8.5 SR that hit Nias in 2005, could not tear down this hundred year old house. The supporting poles are crisscrossed, the ironwood buffers are large. The foundations are not polished. No nails, connecting pegs only. Omo Sebua is so flexible against earthquake shock, an architecture that is completely earthquake resistant. Intelligence of ancient civilization comes from hundreds of years ago.

Omo sebua is older than any human who lives, who came to visit it. Omo means home, comes from the word of Owo, means boat. The word Omo has changed from Owo to Gomo finally becomes Omo. The ancestors of Nias Selatan people were sailors, wading through the vast sea and docked in Susua-Gomo village. Sailing at sea is accustomed to waves. The ship became a dwelling. Decide to Stay on land, Nias Selatan ancestors then faced new waves; earthquake.

In the past, the island of Nias, often stroke by earthquake. This land was called by ‘hulosolaya: laya’; island which is often gets the brunt by the earthquake. Nias ancestors then adopted themselves to the natural conditions. Their sailing experience in the ocean, which is often hit by sea waves, gave them inspiration.

Thus,they replicate their boat into the house on the mainland. Owo means boat. Owo, became Gomo, name of their village, Became Omo (Duha 2012: 5-6). Sebua, literally means village head and or noble. So Omo Sebua is a big house for the Capitan; the head of village and or the nobleman along with his family.

Omo Sebua, is not just a house, but a symbol of meaning, in each carving there is a wimba or images. Wimba is not just an immage, it is visual language. Form of visual literacy intelligence of Nias Selatan ancestor.

In the wimba, In Omo Sebua in Bawomataluo for example, the exposure of the existing visual language is divided into five wimbas; wimba flora, wimba fauna and mixture wimba consist of jewelry, furniture, flora combination and serial of events that have been occurred in Nias Selatan daily life during that period, as well as the social status
