Moyo dance is one of Nias Selatan traditional dance, an ancient dance. Moyo dance can only be performed by woman. This dance is a characteristic symbol of Nias Selatan People. Moyo means eagle.

The movement of Moyo dance is taken from the eagle movement in sky, when it flies and flapping its wings. This dance is a picture of persistence of Nias Selatan People, such an eagle. Usually Moyo dance will be performed in a special occasion, both before and after the occasion. Other symbol meaning of this eagle movement in this dance is dignity and optimistic value, the value attitude of Nias People.

In Moyo dance performances are usually accompanied by traditional music such as Nias Selatan original drums and gong. Beside music instrument, this dance is also accompanied by chanting poetry or songs performed by the vocal accompanist, for vocal accompanist is usually composed of two singers.

Moyo Dance, is not just a dance, it is a life philosophy in form of coordinated movement.
